A number of weeks ago we mentioned that an ActionScript 3 version of SlideShowPro for Flash was in development. We haven't mentioned anything about it since, so here's a quick update.
Development continues at a brisk pace, with nearly all of the main component functionality up and running. There are a couple of big pieces left to code, but it's coming together really nicely. If all things continue as they are with no major hiccups, we should have a downloadable beta about a month from now.
As for how the AS3 version will fit into our product lineup, the AS3 build will share the same version number as the current (AS2) build of SlideShowPro for Flash, which is 1.8.9. It will offer all the same functionality, and for all intents and purposes should be indistinguishable from the AS2 build.
Once final, the AS3 version will be included (for free) in the same download as the current AS2 version; allowing users to choose which extension they'd prefer to use. Flash MX 2004 and Flash 8 users will continue using the current AS2 build, while Flash CS3 users will have the option of using either in their projects.
As for SlideShowPro for Lightroom, it will use the AS3 version of SlideShowPro once all the kinks have been worked out and the component is no longer in beta.
